Rev. James “Eddie” Winkler

Rev. James “Eddie” Winkler, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Monday, November 13, 2023.

Born November 3, 1949, in Shooting Creek North Carolina, Eddie was the son of the late James Neal Winkler and Lucille Mary Hogsed. He was married for 54 years to his beloved wife, Karen Elaine Winkler. they were members of Eastview Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA earlier in life.

Eddie was an ordained preacher and pastored Cradle Mountain Baptist Church in Dahlonega, Ga. After moving to Lavonia, Eddie and Karen became members of Fairview Baptist Church. Eddie loved preaching the word of God, talking about the Lord, and sharing his testimony with others.

Eddie was the proud father / father-n-law to three daughters and one son, Shannon Winkler of Gainesville, Kali Winkler of Gainesville, Kristie Winkler Hughes of Lavonia, Joshua Winkler of Commerce, and son-in-law, Jon Hughes of Lavonia. He was also an adoring grandfather to Caleb and Britany Burris of Gainesville, Cole Hulsey of Gainesville, and Braden Roberts of Lavonia, as well as two great-grandchildren, Cameron and McKenzie Burris.

Eddie is also survived by his sister, Diane Chambers of Sautee, and numerous cousins, nieces/nephews, sisters/brothers-in-law, and a multitude of extended family and friends.

Eddie’s Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Eastview Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Moore, Pastor Jason Moon, Pastor Jerry Whitlock, and Rev. Jimmy Abernathy officiating. Reception to follow service in the fellowship hall.
