James H. Maxey, PH.D, age 79, died on January 5, 2017 at his residence. Jim Maxey was a man whom loved life, family, friends, sports, children and teaching. His sense of humor made all situations more enjoyable. Jim was valedictorian at Buda High School, graduated with a major in math from Illinois Wesleyan University and a master’s from Illinois State University. He then became a math teacher for 4 years at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. In 1968, Jim was given a fellowship and assistantship at the University of Michigan where he earned his PH.D. in educational psychology.
In 1970, he and family moved to Atlanta where he joined the academic faculty where he taught research design and statistics for 30 years. In 2000, Jim retired and remained active with his grandchildren, golf, and bridge and even took art lessons in retirement.
Jim was a devoted husband and father. He took enormous pleasure from the successes his wife, Annette, and their son, Greg, achieved. However, his greatest thrill was the birth of his three grandsons Michael, Tyler and Davis. He happily engaged in any of their interests and spent untold hours with them and supporting them in their multiple activities.
Jim is survived by many close friends and family which will miss him dearly. There will be a small family only service. Jim hopes that you will consider giving to the Atlanta Food Bank in his name www.acfb.org or any other charity that is important to you. Online condolences may be expressed at www.csog.com.
