Ira Thomas Mcginnis

Ira Thomas Tommy McGinnis, 77, of Locust Grove, Georgia went home to be with his Lord on June 25, 2012. He died peacefully at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Born January 19, 1935 in Shakerag, Georgia to Roy Carroll McGinnis and Carrie Tatum McGinnis. Tommy is survived by his wife Joann McGinnis of Locust Grove, sons Michael McGinnis of Lincoln, CA; Roger McGinnis and his wife Pamela of Springfield, Virginia; Roy McGinnis and his wife Harriet of Asheville, NC, as well as daughters Karen McGinnis of Lincoln, California; Lorie McGinnis of Lawrenceville, GA, and Stepdaughter Beverly Ann Sheffield and her husband Tommy Ward of Waycross GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hannah Weimer of Fairview, NC; Hudson McGinnis of Blacksburg, VA; Rachel Stacey of Winder, GA; Harrison McGinnis of Asheville, NC; Derek Stacey of Winder, GA; Roger McGinnis, Jr. of Blacksburg, Virginia; Hayden McGinnis of Mars Hill, NC; Heidi McGinnis of Mars Hill, NC; Nicole McGinnis of Springfield, VA, Hope McGinnis of Mars Hill; his brother Don McGinnis of The Villages, FL; and his sister Robin Waterfall of Leesburg, FL. Tommy is preceded in death by both parents and his brother David and sister Shirley. Tommy was a Navy Veteran serving two tours during the Korean Conflict. Later he worked as a printer for IPD Printing in Doraville, Georgia until his retirement. Memorial services and place will be announced at a later date.
