Howard Eugene "Gene" Belcher, 85, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Fayetteville, Georgia. A native of College Park, Georgia, Gene was born on April 17, 1940, and lived a life marked by quiet strength, integrity, and dedication to both his family and his profession.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his disciplined and methodical approach to life. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career in aviation operations that spanned more than three decades. His expertise and leadership were instrumental in the success of numerous commercial airlines. Notably, Gene co-founded Phoenix Airline Services, a regional airline that reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and deep knowledge of the industry.
Throughout his life, Gene was known as the embodiment of a gentleman—reserved yet approachable, refined yet grounded. He led with fairness and a quiet confidence, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. His natural leadership left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of engaging with him.
Gene's greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Kathryn Belcher Cassidy and Stephanie Belcher; son-in-law Ryan Cassidy; grandchildren Amelia and Landon Cassidy; sisters Francis Young, Joyce Handley, and Nancy Bradley; and brothers David Belcher and Joe Belcher.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Kerry Belcher; his father Howard Belcher; his mother Geneva Belcher; his brother Ralph Belcher; and his brother Billy Belcher.
Gene was truly one of a kind. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 25, 2025, at 01:00 PM at Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church located at 2165 Hwy 138 SW, Riverdale, Georgia 30296. The family will be available for visitation prior to the service starting at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.
