Florence Ellen Moore

Florence Ellen Moore, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Albert’s House Personal Care Home, in Atlanta. She was born on April 27, 1930, in Sheldahl, Iowa, to the late Vernon and Wilma Mueller. She was known as Kiki to friends and family.

A woman of great humility, sacrifice and determination, she accomplished much in her life while never calling attention to herself. A life - long learner (Her bookshelf contained such diverse books as a Russian-English Dictionary, a collection of modern poets and Father Richard Rohr’s, Immortal Diamond) she paused her college education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to begin raising three young children. While continuing to raise a family, she returned to school - sometimes traveling to the University of Louisville campus by city bus - in the 1960’s to finish her degree in English, at Louisville. Subsequently, she held administrative positions with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, General Motors and the State of Iowa.

After taking time away for family and work, she also later returned to her first love from childhood, the piano. This was her greatest passion and she’d often receive raves from her peers for her playing. In typical fashion, she shied away from compliments and would find things she thought she could do better. Whether it was Schumann, Chopin, Joplin or Bolcom, she could - and would- easily spend hours working on a passage. She continued to play well into her 80’s. She became a close friend of her teacher Chiu-Ling Lin, and they traveled to Europe to walk in the footsteps of the great Western musicians and composers. Travel and understanding other cultures was a recurring theme in Kiki’s life. Perhaps her most adventurous trip was with cherished sister-in-law Ellie, when they traveled to Russia together in the late 1980’s, pioneers in Glasnost!

Later, Kiki again put much in her life on hold when her beloved daughter Connie was afflicted with multiple sclerosis as an adult. In her seventh decade of life when most people would be relaxing, for years Kiki selflessly dedicated her waking hours to providing care and comfort in her home for her daughter.

She is survived by sons John (Lynn) and Jim (Donna) husband Fred, sister-in-law Ellie, all of Atlanta, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephews Erik and Curt Mueller of Atlanta and niece Chris Mueller of Toronto, CN. She was preceded in death by her daughter Connie and her brother, Vernon.

A memorial for friends and family will be held in the near future.
