Evelyn Brooks passed away on Tuesday March 24th, 2026 in Hiram, GA. She was born Evelyn Christine Hicks to the late Charles E. and Mary Katherine Hicks on October 22, 1934. On March 12, 1955, she married the late James D. Brooks, Jr. (Jim), the love of her life.
Evelyn was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Lithia Springs where she attended Sunday school, worked with the children’s missions and choir ministry for many years, and shared the joy of Jesus in the clown ministry as Tulip, the clown.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She took such joy in her family and cherished them immensely. She leaves behind her legacy in her daughter, Michelle Sampson (Mark) and granddaughter, Rebecca Boyd (Braxton), whom she lovingly raised as her own daughter. Her legacy continues in her grandchildren, Angie Brooks, Jared Sampson (Elizabeth), Jonah Sampson (Rachel), and Jaydin Kangas (Tyler). Her precious great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Kenzie, Harley and Harper brought her great joy and laughter. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Starla.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, her husband, Jim, her son, Kevin, and her grandson, Kyle. She looked forward to being reunited in Heaven with them and to getting a big hug from Jim and Kevin.
Evelyn’s silliness, devotion, listening ear, and faith will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family finds peace in knowing that she claimed Jesus as her Lord and Savior and will be waiting for them in Heaven. She was ready to meet her Savior when her time came.
Evelyn has chosen to be cremated. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, April 7, with visitation beginning at 5:30 PM and the service at 6:30 PM at First Baptist Church Dallas in Dallas, Georgia.
