Douglas Randall Cockrill, 74, of Alexandria, Virginia, died peacefully on January 5th, 2017, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 21st, at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30305.
Doug was born in Alexandria, Virginia to Charles and Constance Lucille Cockrill on March 16, 1942. His family moved to Atlanta where Doug graduated from North Fulton High School in 1960. Doug graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1964 and married Helen Sue Kelly Susu on November 26, 1964, at Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. A lifelong banker, Doug’s first job was with First National Bank of Atlanta where he worked as a Trust Officer. He continued his career with First National Bank, First National Bank of Columbus, First Union, Wachovia, and Reliance Trust.
Doug was active in his community and served on several boards including The Nature Conservancy, Scottish Rite Foundation, Zoo Atlanta, and Friends of the Library. Doug enjoyed cycling with his biking group, photography, and reading.
Doug is survived by his wife of 52 years Susu Cockrill, Randy Cockrill son, Jennifer Cockrill daughter, Donald A. Cockrill brother, and his grandchildren Annie Reid Hagearty 11, William Randall Cockrill 9, Kelly Teagan Hagearty 9, and Emily Alexandra Cockrill 5.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Doug may be directed to The Nature Conservancy of Georgia or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
