Dorothy Virginia Ard

Virginia Manning Ard, 93, of Decatur, died January 2, 2010 at Emory Hospital. She was preceded in death by husband Paul O. Ard, Sr. and son, Jere S. Ard.

She is survived by daughter Lynnette Cannon Robert L.; son, the Rev. Paul O. Ard, Jr. Susan and daughter-in-law Vivian Ard; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
In the 40’s and 50’s, she was a full time mother and was active in church, community and schools, especially PTA. She served as president of Gordon Elementary PTA and Murphy High PTA and also an elected term as state PTA president.

She began working at Scripto Manufacturing to help with college expenses and was there for several years before going to work at the DeKalb County Tag Office. She also worked for a time in the family-owned furniture store. She was formerly an active member of Ormewood Park Presbyterian Church and for the last fifty years at Martha Brown United Methodist Church where she was the oldest living member.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Martha Brown United Methodist Church, 468 Moreland Avenue S.E., Atlanta, Georgia, 30316. The Rev. David Collins will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to and following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Martha Brown United Methodist Church.
