Daniel Frederick Simmons

Daniel Frederick Simmons (Danny), 58, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026 after suffering an unexpected acute illness. Danny was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Danny was the youngest of three, born to Joyce Joan Simmons (Bonner) and Retired Capt. John Alan Simmons on March 22, 1967 at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, GA. Danny grew up in Sandy Springs, GA and attended Riverwood High School. In his youth, he fostered many lifelong friendships and learned to play the guitar.

He began his young adult life playing in local bands spanning many genres of the music he loved. Music was his passion, and he found solace and sanctuary in the guitar. Danny played with many memorable local bands, including The Dreadful Grapes, Apple Peru, Space Seed, The Mikel K Band, The Flying Monkeys, and Super String Theory.

Danny also had a knack for crafting beauty by hand. He was a talented carpenter and set dresser for International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local Union 479, working in construction for the movie industry for over 15 years and serving as a mentor for those new to the field. Danny’s carpentry talents extended beyond work as he thoroughly enjoyed construction and refurbishing projects ranging from vintage instruments to top-quality pieces of furniture. When he was not working on a construction project, he could be found playing a round of golf or reading an enthralling mystery novel.

Danny’s loved ones describe him as impassioned, witty, smart, soulful, intuitive, and talented. He was known for his wit and boisterous, infectious laugh. Danny showed unwavering support for social justice and human dignity.

Danny is survived by his daughter Alison Simmons, his mother Joyce Simmons, his sister Karen Simmons Greaber (Patrick), niece Madison Greaber, and his extended family of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his brother David Simmons, his father John Simmons, his uncle David Bonner, and his cousin Erin Bonner.
