Charles Emmons Green

Charles Emmons Green quietly passed away in his sleep June 30, 2026. Born September 8, 1933 in Atlanta Georgia to James Emmons. Green and Jessie Corene (Brown) Green, he was predeceased by his wives, Peggy (Mitchell) Green and Evelynne (Brinkman) Green. His children, Karl and Cathy, living in Sandy Springs, GA and Tulsa OK respectively, survive along with their spouses.

Charles grew up in East Point surrounded by a large extended family. Charles graduated from Russell High School and Georgia Tech. Armed with an engineering degree from Tech, he spent 50 years in the aerospace/ defense industry starting in Huntsville Alabama and working in Orlando Florida, Swannanoa North Carolina, Sugar Grove Virginia, Deland Florida, and Amarillo Texas before returning to metro Atlanta upon retirement. His work included rocket motor propulsion systems, caseless ammunition, camouflage and nuclear weapons assembly/disassembly. Along the way, he obtained his PE license in North Carolina and an MBA from Stetson University. He served on the diaconate at both Swannanoa Presbyterian Church and Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, Marion Virginia.

He told numerous stories about growing up, but the canoe trip down the Chattahoochee, embarking at Campbellton Road and exiting in Apalachicola, in 1949 stands out. He enjoyed day hikes in the mountains, playing tennis and the friends and camaraderie as a member of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.

A quiet man, loved and respected by many, with a hand in some interesting aspects of America’s defense, who lived a long and full life.

A private interment in Greenwood Cemetery, followed by a celebration will occur at a later date.
