Betty Parks Ewer

November 8, 1937 — December 7, 2025

Betty Parks Ewer, born in Moultrie, Ga., on November 08, 1937, passed away peacefully after battling Dementia/Alzheimer's on December 07, 2025, with her son by her side. She was the youngest of 16 children of her parents, Alfred Porter & Ila Orr Parks. She is survived by her eldest son, Hugh (Jack) Jr.; her grandson, Westley; 2 great-grandchildren, Xakkarrahya and Mallahkaii Ewer; her brother, Virgil; and her sisters, Sally and Genevieve. She was preceded by her husband, Hugh "Jack" Ewer Sr.; her son, James; her daughter, Joy; her brothers, Raymond, Alfred Porter Jr., Walter (Frank), and John; and her sisters, Ruby, Lucile, Ailene, Mary Leila, Mary Louise, Corene, Lorene, and Gertie.

Betty started her working career while she was still in high school at Minix Drug Store. She eventually went out to Tucson, Arizona, to be with her future husband while he was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (DM AFB). They ventured to Dallas, Texas, on March 02, 1957, and got married. Shortly after, they moved to Atlanta, where she got a job with her oldest brother, Raymond Parks, the NASCAR pioneer & legend, at Parks Novelty Machine Co. as a secretary/bookkeeper and penny-puncher. (Betty would actually punch a hole in the cellophane wrapping on a pack of cigarettes and insert change (usually a few pennies), as the old cigarettes dispensing machines could not give change, so the change would be inside the cellophane wrapping.)

Betty lived a full life filled with love, laughter, family, and neighbors. She had a passion for doll collecting and thrift store shopping with her daughter, Joy. They would often leave for the stores early and not return until late that night. She also had a heart for animals and could not stand to see one suffer. Back in her day, Betty was avid about feral cats and was responsible for legal pads completely full of names/numbers of the many cats she would trap, have neutered or spayed, and any medical treatment that they needed from Lifeline. Then, after a few days of recuperating inside, she would release them back where she had trapped them.

Those who knew Betty will remember her for her kindness, her quiet reliability, and—above all—her love for her family and friends. She lived fully, gave generously, and left a legacy of compassion and devotion that will continue to echo through the lives she touched. The hole she left is enormous. But so is the love she gave, and that lives on in all of us.

At Betty’s request, there will be no service.
