Bailey Warren Brown Jr.

June 15, 1943 — January 18, 2026

Bailey Warren Brown Jr. died peacefully at home in Brookhaven GA, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by family and a dear friend.

Born in New York City on June 15, 1943, Bailey focused on tennis from his early years. He played in high school and excelled in both tennis and squash at the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to play tournaments in the US and overseas, first as an amateur then professionally. He was a member of the Boston Lobsters professional tennis team and became a long-time and beloved tennis teacher and coach in Atlanta.

The Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame recognized his impact on the Georgia tennis community by inducting him in 2015. Testimonials from GTHF include statements that Bailey was: “an icon in the Atlanta area for tennis,” “a world top 25 player,” “a student of the game,” “a man of good character,” “one of the finest southern gentlemen transformed from the northeast and … mixed that with a tremendous competitiveness on the court.”

Bailey was a devoted husband, father, brother and championship mixed doubles tennis partner with his second wife, Carla. For many years, they had a wonderful life on the tennis circuit, along with many other travel adventures. In more recent years, he enjoyed mentoring younger generations at local tennis clubs and was a Tennis Channel enthusiast.

Bailey had quick wit and was kind to all. Even in trying times, hospital workers commented on his warmth and humor. He also was an avid follower of news, a student of history, and enthusiastic reader.

He was preceded in death by his second wife Carla Lord, his father Bailey Warren Brown Sr, and mother Barbara Robbins Brown (Worth). He is survived by his son Bailey Warren Brown III (Angelia) from his first marriage to Katherine Frey Brown Galbraith, his brother Huntting Worth Brown (Anne), and sister Deborah Brown Procino (Peter).

The family recognizes the devotion of dear friend Colleen Bittinger.
