Annetta Corinne “Sissy” Bever Walters went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2026—just shy of her 84th birthday. There is no doubt she made a joyful (and likely very loud) entrance through the Pearly Gates, laughing all the way, just as she did throughout her life. If you heard laughter nearby, chances are Sissy was either the cause of it or leading it. Her larger-than-life personality, generous spirit, and deep love for others are what so many will remember most.
In 1960, Sissy celebrated two life milestones—graduating from Gilmore High School in Sandyville, West Virginia, and marrying the love of her life, Ralley Francis “Zeke” Walters, on December 1. Together, they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on March 3, 2002. Their love story remained a cornerstone of her life. Sissy devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family. She poured her love into raising her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, always making sure they knew they were cherished.
A familiar and beloved presence in her community, Sissy spent decades volunteering in the schools attended by her children and grandchildren. Her dedication eventually led to a position as a teacher’s assistant at Duncan Elementary in Duncan, South Carolina. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she proudly earned her CDL—passing on the first try—so she could drive a school bus. She absolutely loved it and spoke of it often. Even after retirement, she returned to volunteering, simply because she loved being around children. Her commitment earned her the well-deserved honor of Volunteer of the Year.
Sissy was also wonderfully creative, known for her eye-catching 3D bulletin boards that were even featured in local newspapers. She had an artistic flair and a love for crafts of all kinds. When she wasn’t creating, you could likely find her enjoying another passion—country music. She traveled far and wide to see her favorite artists perform, collecting memories (and probably a few good stories) along the way.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Joel Douglas Walters, Jane Elizabeth Walters Baab, and Samantha Walters. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Justin Walters (Breanna), Zachary Baab, Eric Baab, and Tiffani Walters.
Though she did not get as much time as she would have liked, she treasured her great-grandson, Jacen Walters, and found joy in watching him grow into a wonderful young man.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Lucy Fay Bever, and her siblings: Paul Bever, Robert Bever, Gene Bever, Evelyn Moore, JoAnn Thompson, and Bill Bever.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Sandyville, West Virginia—“up on the hill,” just as Sissy requested—this fall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association
