Anita Louise Waters, lovingly known as “Star” passed away on September 24, 2026, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was 78 years old.
Born on February 18, 1948, in Portland, Oregon, Anita was the daughter of Anna M. Jackson and Harvey Jackson and was their only child. True to her nickname, she lit up every room she was in.
She married her one true love, Neshell Wayne Waters and raised four children both overseas and in Portland, Oregon. She was devoted to her family and to helping others. Throughout her life, Star also worked as an interior decorator, health educator, life coach, wellness coach, radio talk show host, motivational speaker, podcaster and artist. She remained actively involved in the art, and health and wellness communities in both Georgia and Oregon until her death.
Above all else, her family was her greatest joy. She is preceded in death by her husband Neshell and is survived by her four children: Rashonda Waters-Smith, Thabiti Waters, Igwe Waters, and Nashid Waters, and her stepson, Tyrone Waters. “Granny Star” is also survived by her grandchildren, Jazmyne Waters, Sean Waters, Aria Waters, and Eryn Waters.
At Star's request, she will be cremated. Her family is planning memorial gatherings in Atlanta, Georgia, and Portland, Oregon, in the coming months. Details will be shared with family and friends as arrangements are finalized.
Rest well, Star. Your light continues through all of us.
