Stephen Burch Gower

STEPHEN BURCH GOWER of Atlanta, Georgia left this life on January 20, 2016 to be in the presence of The Lord.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Gayle Brown Gower.
Survivors include father William Gower and his sister Robin Chester both of Amelia Island, Florida. Stephen is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
Steve was a very humble, private person. His intellect was respected by those who knew and worked with him. He achieved multiple degrees in Mortuary Science, Computer Science, and German language. He also spoke multiple languages and had a desire to always be learning.
He loved living in Mid-Town Atlanta and enjoyed responsibilities associated with the Mid-Town community serving as a leader with security, webmaster, and much more. The whole Mid-Town area and its inhabitants were his passion. Steve enjoyed reading, being challenged intellectually, and travelling. He went to Europe many times and cycled across Germany as the East/West wall came down.
Steve was loved for his creativity, honesty, and caring attitude. We will all miss his innovative ideas and the experiences he would bring back from his adventures and exploring. He cared about everyone that he got to know and took a personal interest in them. His Dad called Steve a Renaissance man and he will be missed dearly by all.
A Committal Service will take place with his family on March 18th at Amelia Plantation Chapel Columbarium on Amelia Island, Florida. This date would be Steve’s 51st birthday.
My condolences to Steve’s family. I met Steve several years ago while I was serving as the public safety committee chair for my neighborhood. Steve was extremely helpful to me, sharing information from the Midtown community and giving me suggestions for addressing issues. I will always appreciate his willingness to reach out a hand rather than throw up a wall.
Stephen was an extraordinary person. As kids we could always count on our cousin Stephen to do something ‘out of the ordinary’ and make us laugh. When something strange or kind of weird happened, we all would ask – ‘Where is Stephen?’. As he got older he pondered things just like his mom, Gayle. I know he is with his dear mother and our grandparents now and making them laugh again. RIP Stephen. We love you and will miss you forever.
I was so shocked and saddened when I heard about Steve. My sincere condolences to his family & friends. Steve and I worked together at Patterson’s years ago, and then we reconnected on Face Book. I really enjoyed his posts about Mr. Q. I know Steve will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Gower.
