Shirley Louise Hannon
Shirley Louise Hannon was born in Marion, Alabama on August 8, 1952, to Queen E. Greene and Edward Rowles. Shirley was raised by Queen and Ernest Billy Greene after her mother remarried. Shirley grew up in Springfield, IL where she graduated from Springfield High School. Shirley worked for the state of Illinois Department of Public Health before moving to Louisiana and Texas for several years. In 1988, Shirley and her three daughters returned to Springfield, where she resumed working for the state. Shirley loved good music and good food! She was fiery and funny and never hesitated to speak her mind. Shirley was a loyal and giving person with strength beyond measure. Shirley moved to Georgia in her later years where she spent time with her daughter, Nakia, her granddaughter, Kameryn, and her puppy, Holland. During her time in Georgia, she gained new family and friends through her love and light.
While Shirley spent lots of time putting smiles on the faces of others, she was in a long-time battle for her health. On July 19, 2023, Shirley succumbed to her illness. Shirley was preceded in death by Ernest B. Greene and Edward Rowles Sr. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy daughters Karen, Nakia (daughter Kameryn), Queen E. Michelle (son Shawn Parker II), and bonus son Markus (son Markus Jr and daughter Alexis). She also leaves behind her mother Queen E. Greene, her sister Eva Holman (husband Charles and son Charles Jr), brothers Edward (daughter Nina and son Brandon), Gregory, Dave (wife Liz), and Timothy (wife Carla and daughter Autumn). Mom will be greatly missed by her family as well as a host of other friends and loved ones.
I love you Mom and I miss you so much.

I was so sad to learn of my friend’s passing. She had been on my mind and I had been calling her for several weeks with no answer. I actually had a memento of our “younger days” in Springfield that I wanted to give her. Those days and nights of that yellow Chevy Vega and hitting the dance floor with “The Funky Chicken” will forever live on and bring a smile to my face. Such a great friend that I will love and miss forever!!!! 💔
Sad to hear, sending prayers! Rest in heaven Shirley!
I am going to miss Ms Shirley so much. She was the mom away from our moms🥰. I’ve been a friend to this family for 30+ years and whether close or distant you always knew when you came to Ms Shirley’s house you were welcomed unconditionally. I’m gonna miss my Red Beans and Rice no one made them like you did. To Nakia, Karen, and Chelle I love y’all and I’m praying for your strength and peace. Your mom was a very special lady and I am blessed to know y’all and to have known her. Rest Easy Ms Shirley and continue to watch over us cause we all need as many angels in Heaven as we possibly can. 😔🕯️💔🙏🏾..
Thank you for everything, words can not express my love…
My sister Shirley was a very intelligent, strong, caring person with a unique God given personality.
Shirley endured a lot, yet she seemed to always make “you” laugh when talking with her!
My heart is heavy yet glad at the same time because Shirley is in a better place. Shirley has no more pain.
Shirley has no more tears. Shirley has no more sorrows. Shirley has only joy & happiness “every” day!!
I think Shirley’s proudest achievement was raising her daughters, Karen, Nakia and Michele, and she dearly loved & always talked about her grandchildren, Kameryn and Shawn.
Rest in peace my dear sister,
Love you always
