Robert Boyd Paxton

Robert Boyd Paxton of Fairburn, Ga. died 2/10/2011 at the age of 77. He was a retired Executive Vice-President and General Manager of Printpack, Inc., an Atlanta based flexible film converter for the packaging industry. His body was cremated. A memorial service and celebration of life party will be held on April 30, 2011 starting at 11:00 am at his beloved farm in Fairburn. Mr. Paxton was born and raised in Covington, Virginia and attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While in college he was a member of the first graduating class of the Cooperative Engineering Program.
He began his professional career with the DuPont Company in Richmond, Virginia at their cellophane manufacturing plant where he had also worked during his college years as a co-op engineering employee. He held several engineering and supervisory positions with DuPont at locations in Richmond, Buffalo, New York, Wilmington, Delaware and Atlanta, Georgia.
He joined Printpack Inc., in Atlanta, in 1973 as their Assistant Technical Director. Shortly thereafter he was moved into their manufacturing department where he held positions of Plant Manager, Director of Manufacturing, Vice-President of Operations and Executive Vice-President and General Manager.
Mr. Paxton was an active participant in the American Paint Horse Association and served four years as President of the Georgia Paint Horse Club. He was a member of the Georgia Horse Foundation and served on their Board of Directors. He and his wife, Beth, raised nationally recognized American Paint Horses on their farm in Fairburn where he resided until his death.
Mr. Paxton was elected to the Printpack Board of Directors in 1986 where he served until his retirement in 1996. Surviving are his wife Beth, a son Robert B. Paxton, Jr. of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, two daughters, Debra L. Carey of Cockeysville, Maryland and Cynthia L. Xifo of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, a stepson, Michael Schlueter of Atlanta, Georgia, a sister Rosemary P. Kessinger of Richmond, Virginia and 5 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Heart Association Georgia affiliate, the Alzheimer Association and the ALS Lou Gehrig disease Association.
