Richard A Cheney

July 2, 1932 — June 4, 2018

On Monday, June 4, 2018 Richard A. Cheney of Marietta, loving husband and father of three passed away at the age of 85. He was born July 2, 1932 in Greenville SC to Herbert & Claire Cheney. The Cheney’s relocated to Marietta, and Richard graduated from Marietta H.S. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Jane Durrett, and together they raised 3 sons, Rick, Ken, and Kevin. Richard had a long and distinguished career as an Engineer/Planner at Lockheed-Martin where he retired in 1995.

Richard had a passion for running, golf, reading, and music. He ran competitively well into his seventies, and being most proud to have run the Boston and Marine Corps Marathons several times. His love of music led him to become an accomplished pianist, using his talent to entertain family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, story-telling, determination to succeed, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Richard is survived by one brother Kenneth, 2 sons Rick and Ken, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held for the family to celebrate the life and legacy of this beloved father, husband, and friend.
