Paul Reeves Barber
Paul R. Barber of Atlanta died Monday, July 10, 2017 just before his 96th birthday. Born July 29, 1921 in Ashland, KY, he was employed in the Metallurgy division of Lockheed Aircraft from 1958 to 1989. An enthusiastic amateur golfer, his true love was construction. His motto was if you can’t fix it with a hammer, it can’t be fixed. Whenever friends or neighbors had something that needed to be built or torn down, Paul was the first person they called. His second love was books. He kept a ledger of every book he read, starting in the 1960’s, complete with synopsis and his opinion on the merits of the story. A member of the Cathedral of St. Philip, he served on the ushering team for many years.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Barber. He is survived by his daughters, Beth Kaiser of Acworth, Hannah Day and her husband, Jimmy of Griffin, and his son, Tom Barber and his wife Leslie Lamb of Lynn, MA. He is also survived by his granddaughters Joanna Shackelford and her husband Scott, and Donna Stewart and her husband Ron, plus three great grandchildren.
A brief interment for Paul will be held at 3 pm Saturday, July 22nd in the gardens at the Cathedral of St. Philip with a wake to celebrate his life at 5 pm at his home.
