Odette Gicquel Newsom

Odette Gicquel Newsom 93, known to most as “Meme”; peacefully left us to be with the Lord November 24, 2020. Odette was born May 1st, 1927 in Blanc Mesnil, France to the late Joachim Marie and Marie Anne (Laurent) Gicquel.
She arrived to the U.S., June 27, 1946 at age 19 as a war bride via the SS Tillie Lykes, landing in Houston, Texas. She lived most of her adult life in Atlanta until moving to Macon, GA. She graduated from the University of Paris, spent her life raising her children and grandchildren and being a Nanny for the Fajman family (1987-2000). Meme was raised Catholic and converted to Baptist when she married the love of her life. She loved Jesus, family, friends, and wine. While she was gentle and reserved, she was also a spitfire and well respected. Her greatest joy was every opportunity to build memories with her family; and each time we left she made sure we knew she would be waiting for our next visit. Her heart was as big as the heavens and her legacy will live forever.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Lonnie Oscar Newsom, dearest brother Jean Gicquel, son in law Thomas Wayne Harris and grandson Daniel Adair Paschal. She leaves behind her children: Donald Paschal (Centerville, Ga), Janet Hamilton (Cumming, Ga), Chris (Kelly) Newsom (Macon, Ga), Nathalie Harris (Sharon, Tn). Grandchildren: Lyndsy (Aaron) Fischer (Kathleen, Ga), Lauren Paschal (Dallas, Ga), Nicole Hamilton (Cumming, Ga), Stephanie Dodson (Macon, Ga), John Newsom (Warner Robins, Ga), Rebecca (Robert) Maine (Warner Robins, Ga) Brittany Sumlin (Macon, Ga), Haylee (Michael) Chitty (Lizella, Ga), Alexia Williams, (Auburn, Ga), nephew and niece Florian and Manon Ugn (Paris, France), and 22 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held and the family will receive guests at United Community Church Saturday, November 28th at 2pm.
You can also visit the family after 3:30pm at Stephanie’s home at 1650 Rivoli Lane, Macon, Ga 31210
