Resided in: Avondale Estates, GA

Matt Ernest Moore went home to be with the Lord on June 6th, 2014, on the 70th anniversary of D Day, just one month shy of his 90th birthday. Matt lived well, loved well and served well. Born in Mobile, Alabama on July 6th, 1924, he attended University Military School and the University of Alabama, where he received his ROTC
commission after his return from World War II. He retired from the US Army as a Brigadier General. An avid athlete, he played basketball, baseball and football at UMS, football at Alabama, and was drafted by the Saint Louis Cardinals. A keen Crimson Tide football fan, he claimed that he “never saw Bama lose a game”. He will be missed and celebrated by his wife of 68 years, Mary Louise Moore of Avondale Estates, GA, his daughters MaryAnn Woodworth of Denver CO, Ann Moore of Avondale Estates GA
and Marilyn Trippe of Lansing, NC and by his grandsons, Will and Ryan Woodworth of Denver CO. Matt also loved his Decatur Presbyterian Church family where he and Mary attended for over 46 years. Through DPC he was introduced to Honduras Outreach, International and a passion for mission trips to Honduras – and one scraggly dog named Mildew – was
born. Over 25 years, he helped build dormitories, medical facilities, schools, libraries and relationships. His life celebration will be Saturday, June 21st at Decatur Presbyterian Church in Decatur GA beginning at 2:30pm with the interment of his ashes, followed by a Memorial Service in the
sanctuary at 3:00pm.
