Mary Virginia Corrine Marlow Daniel

Mary Virginia Corrine Marlow Daniel, a woman of grace, wisdom, and unwavering love, departed this life on May 9, 2025. Born on May 16, 1939, in Loudoun County, Virginia, to the late Horace and Kathleen Marlow, she was the fourth of seven children. Educated in Loudoun County, she attended Willisville and Banneker Elementary Schools and graduated from Douglass High School in 1957.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Mary began her spiritual journey at Austin Grove United Methodist Church, in Bluemont, VA where her love for God and community took root. After relocating to Atlanta in 2017, she became a devoted member of Mount Paran Church and served in the Greeters Ministry, where her kindness, warmth, and radiant smile made all feel welcomed and loved.
On February 13, 1960, she married the love of her life, James Edward Daniel Sr. Together, they built a strong and lasting legacy for over 49 years of marriage, until his passing in 2009. Mary was the heart of her family. She was a devoted mother to Angela Jamice Daniel, Corlessia Ilene Daniel, James Edward Daniel Jr. “J.D.” (Wendy), Forrest Granville Daniel, and Dedra Daniel Faine (Roger). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Carmen Nicole Daniel, Stephen Garlet Whitaker Jr., James Edward Daniel III, Govan Paul Faine II (Meronne), Brice Joseph Rowe, Lauren Virginia Faine, Christopher Isaac James Daniel, and Marlow Daniel Buckner; and her beloved great-grandson, James Edward Daniel IV.
She is survived by her siblings Horace “Junie” Marlow Jr., Frances “Pooh” Wallace (Michael), Charles “Pam” Marlow (Mae Ellen), and Debra “Dee Dee” Jordan (Cornelius). Mary is proceeded in transition by her sister, Betty Welsh and brother, James “Tug” Marlow, Sr. (Mary). She was adored by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
She proudly served for over 20 years with the FBI in Washington, DC, retiring on April 9, 2001. In her retirement, she continued to care for others—most notably, pouring love into the lives of children from four families whom she embraced as her own grandchildren.
Mary had a nurturing soul and a strength that was both gentle and profound. Her spiritual wisdom, comforting presence, and unwavering devotion to family made her the true matriarch. Whether through a warm smile, a thoughtful word, or simply her presence, Mary made everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, service, and unconditional love.
