Marlys Ruth Hodoval
Marlys “Marcie” Hodoval joined her Lord on February 11, 2010. She was born in Fairmont, MN, on October 28, 1931.
Her early years were spent enjoying the little town of Fairmont, where she developed a love of water and nature on the many lakes. Her father taught her to fish which she enjoyed throughout her life.
Marcie attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1949. She also attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis.
She worked at the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Minneapolis Star and Tribune in Public Relations and Promotion. She married Fred Hodoval and had two children, Jodi and Scott. Marcie enjoyed being a full time homemaker and nurturing her children.
As the kids grew, Marcie went to work at North Central College Student Union in Naperville, IL where helping young people blossom into responsible citizens of the future was a real joy. The Hodoval’s then moved to Marshall, MI, where Marcie was active in the Zion Lutheran Church and volunteered driving chemo patients to therapy.
After years living in the north, Marcie and Fred moved south to a lake home in Milledgeville, GA and later to Cumming, GA to be closer to their son and family.
Marcie loved to read and was involved in many volunteer activities in the churches and communities where she lived. Her favorite times centered on being with her family and grandchildren, visiting places with scenic mountain and lake views and watching birds feeding on the patio.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Fred Hodoval, children Jodi Peter Rehm and Scott Suzi Hodoval and four grandchildren, Devon, Connor, Haley and Brad.
Plans for a memorial service at a future date are being finalized. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Christ the King Lutheran Church c/o Organ Fund, 1125 Bettis-Tribble Gap Road, Cumming, GA 30040.
