Kevin Robert Roy, 58 of Murphy, N.C. passed away peacefully on January 17, 2014 with his family at his side from a heart related issue. Kevin was born on February 13, 1955 in Manchester, NH to the late Mary Healy and Robert Roy. He attended OLPH, MMHS and Lake Worth High and that education started him on his journey. He played sports early in life and enjoyed time with his sisters, Donna Hunt of New Boston, NH and Cynthia Roy Cowart who passed in 1980. Kevin’s young adult life was full of adventure and unique experiences. In 1973, Kevin met Beth Borchardt, his wife and soul mate in Lake Worth, Florida and together they began their journey of 40 years filled with tremendous love, support and fun. They enjoyed all nature and lived a unique and accomplished lifestyle. Kevin worked as a Union Iron Worker 20 years for Local 402 in West Palm Beach, Florida, building large buildings and stadiums throughout the United States. Kevin’s travels included a sailboat trip from Delray Beach, Florida to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts with a friend Jerry. They endured a hurricane in New Jersey and when they finally pulled into port in the Vineyard, they put a “For Sale” sign on the sailboat, sold immediately and relaxed a few days and flew home to Florida. Kevin enjoyed horses, owned a beautiful thoroughbred named Sonny and also traveled on numerous occasions to the Kentucky Derby with friends. Kevin enjoyed all music mostly the Blues, riding his Harley, gardening, landscaping and woodworking. Kevin and Beth along with their dogs moved to the Smokey Mountains in Murphy, North Carolina after receiving a heart transplant in 2001 at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Beth and Kevin continued with their hobbies, which are all throughout their mountain home. Kevin was so blessed to have received wonderful medical care from all his doctors and technicians. Kevin had a great 10 plus years and only ran into complications during the last two years. He was a fighter all his life and stated as of late, I will never say No to any procedure, as all my doctors never gave up on me. Kevin always loved the saying: “Quality of life outweighs Quantity”, and he lived his life that way. Kevin is survived by his nephew Shaun Hunt and his family and his niece Cynthia Dutton and her family, his two favorites aunts ; Colleen Tobin and Cookie Cosma, uncles, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be in NH in the spring at the discretion of the family.
