Joy M. Edwards

Joy Marie Mann Edwards, 85, of Dunwoody, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 20th, 2016. Born September 6, 1930, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, she moved to Seattle in 1949 to begin her career with the Bank of California. On a blind date in 1950, she met the love of her life, Doug Edwards, and they were married in 1951. While in Seattle, she proudly became a United States citizen, which she remained thankful for until her death.
In 1953, they moved to Atlanta where they would settle and begin to raise their family. She was a hostess and helpmate to her husband throughout his career in management and business. Upon his retirement, they traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, her native Canada, as well as, the United States.
Joy was an avid reader and bridge player who enjoyed sitting on her sun porch while watching the wildlife in her backyard. Along with her husband Doug, she was a long-time member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church, where they were involved in many programs, mission trips, and their beloved Crusaders Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Serving Together Circle, Alter Guild, and New Friends Group.
She was a wonderful mother to her three daughters, and a very involved and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Doug raised three girls, were the grandparents to five amazing grandchildren, and she had recently welcomed her first great-grandchild. She was known as Grandmom, Memommy, Granny, and Gigi.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Douglas Carson Edwards, and her mother, Elizabeth Dickson.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law; Tracy Edwards Conner Don, Karen Edwards Jones Guy, Kelly Edwards Madden Bert, and five grandchildren, Adam Douglas Conner Caroline, Jarrod Thomas Conner, Katherine Elizabeth Madden, Caroline Madden Duvall Chas, Laura Carson Madden, and one great-grandson, Fletcher Douglas Conner.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, July 24th at Dunwoody United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, Georgia at 11:00 am with Reverend David Melton officiating. The family will receive friends at the family’s home on Friday evening, July 23rd from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, and also at 10:00 am prior to the memorial service on Saturday in the Church Parlor.
