John Durwood Lumpkin

John Durwood Lumpkin of Morrow, GA, died on January 18, 2016. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Morrow. Durwood was born in Gadsden, AL in 1937. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Janice Kay Lumpkin, his parents, Floy and Clarence Lumpkin, and three of his seven siblings: Ronnie Lumpkin, Courtney Lumpkin, and Leon Lumpkin. Durwood was a devoted husband, loving father and active church member. Durwood resided in Morrow where he retired from Kroger after 47 years of service. He was a military veteran, serving in the United States Army for 6 years. He was also a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Morrow for over 40 years. He is survived by his only daughter, Jennifer Lumpkin Dunn, son-in-law Robert Dunn, granddaughter Lilly Kay Dunn and grandson Robert Edward Dunn, as well as his sisters, Jo Muskett and Wanda Wilbanks; and brother, Jimmy Lumpkin; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Jack U. Harwell will officiate. Morning visitation at the church begins at 9:30 a.m. with the memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m. Evening visitation will be at the family’s home at 622 Elliott Rd., McDonough, GA, from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Durwood’s name to First Baptist Church of Morrow, 1647 Lake Harbin Rd., Morrow, GA 30260, 770-961-9270 or to the Men’s Club of Golden Crest at Eagles Landing, 425 Country Club Dr., Stockbridge, GA 30281, 770-389-3118.
