Glenn Russell Bilanin died peacefully at home. June 24, 2015, in the arms of his life partner.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Glenn was raised near the shore in New Jersey, the son of Maggie Bilanin, and the late Frank Bilanin. He graduated from Monmouth Regional High School. Glenn pursued his passion for food and cooking and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park, New York. His culinary career included a variety of food service venues including hotels, universities, and restaurants. He specialized in recipe development and baking. Most recently, Glenn was employed by the Tanner Health System of Carrollton, GA, as food service manager at Tanner’s Higgins Hospital in Bremen.
Glenn was a lifelong Episcopalian and an active member of St. Julian’s Episcopal Church for the past 17 years. He was involved in a number of church activities including the Starting Over ministry, the vestry, and most recently on the search committee for the parish priest. In the 1990’s, Glenn was a rodeo cowboy, and served as recording secretary of SEGRA. Glenn loved animals including rodeo horses, as well as his own cats and dogs. He supported his partner’s career by assisting with development of outdoor classrooms and butterfly gardens.
Glenn is survived by his life partner of 18 years, Dr. Steve Rich; his son, Spencer Rich; his mother, Maggie Bilanin; sisters Karen Weeks, Margot Bilanin, and Lori Tobasco; nieces Brittany, Erica, Lena, Kristina, and Amelia; nephews David and Barrett; and his chosen brother, Edd.
The celebration of his life will be held Saturday June 27, 2015, at St. Julian’s Episcopal Church, 5400 Stewart Mill Road, Douglasville, GA, 30135, at 3:00pm. The family will receive visitors at a reception immediately following the service in the church parish hall. Floral tributes may be sent directly to the church, but are limited to flower baskets and live garden plants. Donations in Glenn’s memory may also be made to the church.
