Dr. Geri Sperry Collins
It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Geri Sperry Collins announces her passing
on September 8, 2023 at the age of 75. She passed away surrounded by loved ones and
buoyed by the love and prayers of friends and family.
She is survived by many who loved her dearly: husband of 30 years, Jesse F. Collins.;
siblings Mike Sperry and Chris Arnette; daughter and family Cadis Stuart-Hodges & Wade
Hodges with Erid; son and family Geoffrey Brown & Alyson Ash with Zada, Josephine and
Esmerelda; son and family Christopher & Amber Collins; son and family Taylor & Jill
Collins with Cooper and Jackson; daughter in law and family Christia & Kris Kearns with
Mason and Grace Kearns.
Geri taught social studies for 25 years in several Georgia school systems. She earned her
doctorate in education in 2004 and began teaching graduate students at Mercer
University after her ‘retirement’ from Georgia public schools. She was a born teacher, and
it was her first love. It was the thing she missed the most after fully retiring in 2018.
Geri was an avid quilter, voracious reader and in 2023, published a memoir about her
mother. She was also a lifelong fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. She
will be remembered for her kindness and strength in every facet of her life.
A memorial service is planned and will be announced as soon as a date is set. Donations
to the American Cancer Society in her name are appreciated. Special thanks go out to the
staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton, GA who handled Geri and her
family with extraordinary grace.
