Galveston Earl York
YORK, Galveston Earl GALVESTON EARL YORK Galveston Earl York died peacefully at 10 a.m., May 7 2010, at age 93. Born to Enoch C. York and Caloma Wood York in Clarksville Georgia on May 3, 1917, he was raised in Cornelia Georgia with seven brothers and one sister. He was the last surviving sibling. In the Pacific theater of World War II, York served in the Air Force’s 369th Bomber Squadron on the islands of Tinian and Iwo Jima. For his service, he was awarded three Bronze Stars, as well as Good Conduct and Victory medals. Following the war, York worked in the Ecusta Paper Division of Olin Corporation in Asheville, NC for 38 years. Earl is survived by his wife of 69 years, Iris Crownover York, sons David and Michael, and grandsons Jay and Wil, all of Atlanta. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Georgia 404- 355-7627.
