Charles R. Methvin

Dr. Charles R. Methvin, age 84, died 03/30/2011. He was born in Franklin, Kentucky on June 17, 1926. He grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. He turned down an appointment to Annapolis to pursue a career in Chiropractic. He joined the Marine Corps. in 1944 served in the Asiatic Pacific then returned to establish his Chiropractic Practice in 1950. He was a pioneer to the profession. He was instrumental in the passage of the, “Insurance Equality Bill” for chiropractors in Georgia which mandated insurance coverage for Chiropractic care. Among the many awards bestowed on Dr. Methvin was the Georgia “Chiropractor of the Year” in 1977. He later received the “Life Member” award for 50 plus years of outstanding service to the profession. He was the 18th Chiropractor in his family, 4th generation, which currently has over 26 Chiropractors over 5 generations. He loved to fly. He held a multi-engine instrument rating. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason and a Shriner through York Rite in the Pythagoras Lodge of Atlanta. His dedication and love to help people kept his practice alive and thriving for over 61 years and over 15, 000 new patients. He was a true monument and tribute to his profession. He will be greatly missed by many.
Dr. Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary L. Methvin, son Scott and wife Judy, son Dr. James and wife Susan, son Mark, 3 grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Kourtney Methvin, Lauren Methvin Carter and her husband Rhett, Taryn Methvin Baxter and her husband Devin. Additional survivors are 5 great grandchildren, Trace, Kannon, Coast, Kolebi and Kalei. He is also survived by his sister Betty Seely, nephews Cliff Seely, Tim Seely and his wife Gini as well as 1 grandnephew and 3 nieces John, Helen, Heather and Hannah.
A celebration of his life memorial service will be held on Friday, May the 6th, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Kellett Chapel of Peachtree Presbyterian Church on 3434 Roswell Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30305.
