Charles “Charlie” Livingston Newton II, aged 76, passed away on November 16, 2024. He was the son of Dr. John Lowrance and Scott Newell Newton. Charlie was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Charlie was born on April 22, 1948, in Augusta, Georgia, and spent his formative years in Edinburgh, Scotland, Lakeland, Florida and Selma, Alabama. He went on to attend and graduate from Davidson College, following in his father’s footsteps, the University of Alabama School of Law, and Columbia Theological Seminary, also following in his father’s footsteps. Charlie started his career as a Business, Tort, Estate & Arbitration attorney while also serving as a Captain in the United States Army Reserve, attaining Top Secret Security Clearance as a Safety & Security Officer. Throughout his career, he was known for his dedication and passion for helping others. But more than anything, Charlie was a devoted father, grandfather, and follower of Christ.

In his free time, Charlie enjoyed spending time in Montreat, North Carolina, as an active member of the community and board member of the Presbyterian Heritage Center, worshiping at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, rooting for the Crimson Tide, driving fast cars, and sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Judy Mangiafico Newton, his children, John Livingston Newton (Eleanor), Samuel Newell Newton, Elizabeth “Bess” Goodhead, and his grandchildren, Blythe Elizabeth Goodhead, James Livingston Goodhead, Mary Caroline Goodhead, Grace Alexandra Goodhead, and Wade Livingston Newton. Also, he is survived by his two sisters, Margaret Newton Waterstradt (Bill) and Ellis Newton Ellis (Edward), and predeceased by his brother Willliam “Bill” Newton.

His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. A memorial service for Charlie will be held at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, GA, on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 2pm ET.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the Presbyterian Heritage Center.
