Mrs. Betty Ann Lichner
LICHNER, Betty Ann Chapman (November 7, 1941 – September 12, 2024) of Sandy Springs, GA passed away peacefully after a long illness.
Betty Ann graduated from the University of Georgia. For more than 35 years, she was the office manager of The Beehive Press and The Beehive Foundation. She was a proud Savannahian, living there until moving to Sandy Springs in 2007 with her beloved husband, Jon, to be closer to their two grandsons and watch them grow up.
Betty Ann had the most beautiful smile and everyone loved her. She was quiet and kind, much preferring to read a good book with her cat next to her than go to a party. She was humble and had a wry sense of humor. Betty Ann and Jon loved to travel and she wrote the most beautiful travel journals of each country they visited. Sewing and baking were two of her passions for many years until she decided that baking provided a more delicious product than a beautiful dress. She was best known for her sour cream pecan pound cake, but in her eyes, there was no such thing as a bad dessert. No matter how full she was after dinner, there was still a little room for something sweet.
The apples of Betty Ann’s eye were her two grandsons for whom she always maintained a fully stocked freezer of ice cream. She attended every milestone event for them just as she and her husband did for their daughter. Family was everything to her and she was never too busy for them.
Betty Ann and Jon met at the University of Georgia and married soon after graduating. They were married for 61 years and together for 63. He was devoted to her. Whatever she asked for, he made sure she had. Seeing the evolution of their relationship was a beautiful thing.
Also, we cannot describe Betty Ann without mentioning her love of animals. She always had an adored cat or two, but quickly realized her additional love of dogs after three black lab “granddogs” came into her life. They always put a smile on her face.
We miss her tremendously, but are so thankful that she was part of our lives. We could not have asked for a better wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a shining example to all of us. We would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Huntcliff Summit who were loving and kind to her. Her face lit up when she saw them each day.
Betty Ann leaves behind her wonderful husband, Jon Lichner; much-loved daughter Kimberly Lichner Nottingham of Morganton, GA (Scott); adored grandsons Christopher Nottingham of Kilimanjaro settlement, Windhoek, Namibia and Connor Nottingham of Atlanta, GA; brother Ron Chapman, and niece Amy Chapman. She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Freddie Chapman and her brother, Richard Chapman.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to East Cobb Lions Foundation, c/o Debbie Hennesay, 2021 Pinevale Dr, Marietta, GA 30066.
There will be a private family service.
