November 27, 1946 ~ September 17, 2011

Resided in: Stone Mountain, GA

William A. Hamilton, IV passed peacefully on Sept. 17, 2011 ending his fight with ALS Lou Gehrig’s disease. Bill was born Nov. 27, 1946 in Berkeley, California, son of William Hamilton and Irena Sessions Hamilton, both deceased. Bill enjoyed his teen years in Haiti where his father, a Lt. Col in the Air Force, was stationed. Bill chose the appointment to the US Coast Guard Academy over the US Naval Academy because of his desire to train on the Eagle, their three-masted tall sailing ship. The Jack Eckerd Corp. presented Bill with the third annual Public Service Award for his work with the Georgia Dept. of Corrections and the Georgia Jaycees as Mock Legislature President. He enrolled at GSU, earned his CPA, worked in the heavy duty truck industry, partnered in Pac Lease of Atlanta, and retired in 2005. Not being one to quit, he volunteered his services to the AARP as an Income Tax Advisor, as well as sharing his knowledge with the attendees of the Georgia Aquarium. Bill met & won the heart of Joyce Stone Hamilton Oct. 11, 1970 in Burbank, CA. His other survivors are his son, Mark A. Hamilton & daughter-in-law, Denise, granddaughter, Cheyenne and grandson, Corey, all of Jefferson, GA., and his sister-in-law, Gurina Stone of Port Orchard, Washington.
A Celebration of Life will be at the family home on Sunday, September 25th at 2:00pm. For more information or directions to the service email your request to shoga1234@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the ALS Association of Georgia
