i refinshed hardwood floors for mr & mrs fisher during 2006 & 2007. mr fischer was a ,hands on” person & asked me if he could do the board repairs in the study. he did an amazing job. i could not have done it better. he rebuilt a turn of the century piano (pre 1900) & it was a work of art. he donated it to charity. we got to talk about subjects other than floors & he impressed me with genuine & heartfelt feelings for his students & beyond. he & mrs fischer are truly “salt of the earth”. our world needs more people like them. i will always cherish my time working “with” you. a real prince of a human being. my life is blessed because of you & mrs fischer.
I was on the staff at Arroyo Grande High School in CA with Tom prior to his accepting a teaching post with SCAD. Prior to my embarking upon an African photographic safari, Tom hooked me up with some camera gear and taught me how to use it, giving generously of his time to prepare me for one of the most amazing adventures of my life. A few years after the Fischer’s moved to GA, a friend and I making a cross country cannonball run swung by the Fischer home and Tom took us on a photo shoot during a Savannah lightning storm that scared our socks off! Tom’s love affair with art and nature could not have been more apparent that night. I am at a loss today to learn of the passing of this compassionate, humble, and talented friend. My deepest condolences to his wife and family, truly a light has gone out in this world.
I was a student of Professor Fisher’s, Tom, to all of us in the Photography department at SCAD. I had the pleasure of taking many classes with Tom and creating some of my favorite work under his watchful guidance. I happened to spend my last quarter at SCAD in 2016 with him and his wife in Lacoste. There I saw him come alive renewed with the French countryside and living in and among artists. He crafted the darkroom over in Lacoste and I can never thank him enough for the countless hours of care he gave to my work in that space. His care for students and photography was unmatched by anyone I have met. My deepest condolences to his wife Sharon and family on the loss of such an incredible mentor.
