Born in: Oakland, CA
Resided in: Atlanta, GA

Stephen Wai Seng Mark, age 62, passed away October 25, less than two weeks after being diagnosed with a virulent and aggressive form of cancer.

Steve was born November 26, 1954 in Oakland, California, to Tim and Winifred (Winnie) Mark. Steve earned bachelor’s degrees from San Jose State University and Southern College of Technology (Marietta, GA). He worked as an industrial engineer and a technical quality processor in a variety of industries.

Steve married Elizabeth Wong in her hometown of Augusta, Georgia, in 1989. Their joy was made complete with the birth of Connor Wong Mark in 2001. A lover of music, especially jazz, Steve had occasionally picked up his electric bass and played in bands with friends. Steve had great rhythm and was a natural on the dance floor. He was also an aficionado of Hawaiian music, culture and hula. Steve enjoyed being in the great outdoors: camping and hiking, downhill skiing, scuba diving, sailing, rock climbing, bicycling, wine tasting. He embraced all these activities with enthusiasm and made sure that he was well equipped, knowledgeable and well informed before setting forth in the next great adventure.

A lifelong Episcopalian, Steve was an active member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church. He served on the vestry, sang in the choir and played handbells, managed the parish website, and much more in joyful service and to the glory of God.

Steve is survived by his parents Tim and Winnie Mark, wife Elizabeth, son Connor, brothers Darrell and Danny, and nephews and niece.

A memorial celebrating Steve’s life will be held Sunday, Nov. 5, 2:00pm, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, 4393 Garmon Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. Memorial donations may be made to St. Dunstan’s or the charity of your choice.
