Philip Watson Linder passed away on the evening of his 92nd birthday. He was born July 13, 1925 in Bardstown, Kentucky. Upon graduating from Bardstown High School, he entered the army air corps, flying in a B-24 Liberator bomber for the 15th Air Force stationed in Italy. On a mission to bomb a target in Germany, his plane was damaged by anti-aircraft fire and the crew bailed out over what was then Yugoslavia. Wounded by shrapnel, he was captured and spent the remainder of the war in a German prison camp. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Army Air Medal and the WW2 POW medal.
Following the war, Mr. Linder graduated from Washington State University and then the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. He served as a law clerk to the Kentucky Court of Appeals, which later become the Kentucky Supreme Court. After practicing Law for several years, he joined the Citizens Fidelity Bank in Louisville as a Trust Investment Officer. While working at Citizens Fidelity Bank, he also founded and operated an oil wildcatting partnership that explored and successfully drilled a number of oil fields in south central Kentucky. In 1973, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he was employed by the First National Bank of Atlanta. He retired as a Vice-President from Wachovia Bank in 1990. He served as Vice President and Director of Linder Security Systems, Inc until his death. Mr. Linder was previously a member of the Harmony Landing Country Club and The Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky. He was also a member of the Louisville Bachelors.
A devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his three children, Leslie Winston Linder Hammon, Mary Lyle Linder Herrmann both of Louisville Kentucky, and his son Philip Todd (Tad) Linder of Atlanta, Georgia; his six grandchildren, Alexandra Holland Hammon of Frankfort Kentucky, Mary Grace Herrmann and Matt Winn Herrmann of Louisville Kentucky, Philip Todd Linder, Jr., Emily Vaughn Linder Crow, and Malon Courts Linder of Atlanta Georgia, and great grandchildren Lilly Grace Harrel and Eli Pendleton Harrel, both of Frankfort Kentucky.
