  1. Leslie Lait (Witteried) says:

I have wonderful memories of Mrs Beckley. She was a close friend of my parents many years ago. When I was in college in San Diego she and Mr Beckley were living in San Marcos. They welcomed me to their house on multiple occasions for a quiet respite from dorm life with a home cooked meal and night of peaceful sleep. I will always be grateful for their kindness and remember them fondly. Mrs Beckley had the warmest smile that always made you feel welcome and comfortable. My deepest sympathies to her family.

    • Jeff Beckley says:

Hi Leslie! This is Jeff Beckley, Scarlett Scholte’s husband. Thank you for posting your guest entry. We appreciate it. My parents were indeed good friends with your parents and they carried that friendship on after Kwaj.

Scarlett and I are both retired, living in Huntsville, Alabama. Scarlett remembers you were a cool kid and says “Yokwe”.

  2. Brandt Schmersahl says:

I knew Mrs Beckley when I was a teenager on Kwaj as I became friends and played sports with her son Jeff. She was so welcoming each and every time I would go over and always enjoyed seeing Jeff and I play Strat o Matic Baseball at the house. Got to see her in Hawaii at a Kwaj Reunion and she was the same.. welcoming, kind, with a welcoming smile. She will be missed indeed. RIP Mrs Beckley. Toto
