July 19, 1955 ~ November 25, 2012

Resided in: Atlanta, GA

Lamar Wolcott Miller died peacefully at home on November 25, 2012 after a two year battle with colon cancer. Lamar was born July 19, 1955 in Norfolk, Virginia to Dr. James M. Wolcott Jr. and Janis Smith Wolcott. She attended Granby High School in Norfolk and graduated from Mary Washington College in 1977 with a B.S. in Speech and Audiology.

In 1978 she married William Press Miller and moved to Richmond, Virginia. After working for several years, she became a full time mother with the birth of her daughter Mary Baylor Miller in 1982. Her son, Press Wolcott Miller, was born in 1985. Lamar developed her love of gardening while in Richmond. In 1991, Lamar and family moved to Atlanta. She was active in a number of organizations including: the North Buckhead Civic Association zoning committee, Atlanta Botanical Garden, and the North Buckhead Home and Garden Club.

In addition to immediate family, Lamar is survived by her father, her brother James M. Wolcott and her sisters Nancy Bronez and Mollie McCune and their families. Lamar also treasured her sisters-in-law and their families: Patricia Robinson, Stephana Wier, Michaela Dunstan, and Margaret Meg Orsini.

The Miller family wishes to thank the skilled and caring health care professionals at Peachtree Hematology-Oncology Consultants for their determined efforts to extend Lamar’s life. The family also thanks Hospice Atlanta for the compassionate care extended to Lamar and her family in her final weeks.

Lamar took special joy from the friendships she developed at the Garden Club and through her involvement with her children’s schools, Christ the King and St. Pius X Catholic High School. She also cherished her long term friends from the neighborhood. The love and outpouring of support from all her friends was a source of strength and encouragement to her as she battled her cancer. Her family deeply appreciated all the friends who volunteered on her “care calendar”.

Lamar’s funeral service will be held in Atlanta on Thursday November 29, 2012 at the Cathedral of St. Philip at 2pm. Interment will be in the Cathedral Memorial Garden immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of Lamar’s favorite causes: Atlanta Community Food Bank, Wounded Warriors, the USO, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
