James Evan Dixon (Jim), 78 of Rome passed surrounded by loving family.

James was born in Cleveland, OH to Ralph W. Dixon II and Betty Dixon who both preceded him in death and is survived by siblings Ralph W. Dixon III (Shirin) of North Royalton, OH and Charles (Lisa) of Medina, OH.  James is survived by his wife of 55 years (Barbara). Their direct descendants include sons Timothy (Angela) of Rochester NY and Daniel (Catherine) of Hoover, AL; five Dixon grandchildren, Joseph of Columbus, OH, Sarah and Katherine Rose of Rochester, NY as well as Caroline and Margaret of Hoover, AL. Nieces and Nephews of James include: Charlotte Chester (deceased), Jonathan Chester (Jackie) and their daughter Mary Claire of Hudson, OH as well as their mother and grandmother Barbara Chester (Chris – deceased) of Reminderville, OH; Jaclyn Dixon and Kevin Dixon both of Naples, FL; as well as Jill Dixon of North Canton, OH.

Mr. Dixon was graduated from West Geauga High School in Novelty, OH and the University of Akron and also attended Kent State University. A 33-year career in sales and marketing management started at Goodyear in Akron, OH.  In 1971, Goodyear transferred him to Rockmart, GA where he concluded his tenure with Engineered Fabrics.  During his 19-year retirement he was an avid traveler and camper in the USA and Canada. Additionally, he brightened his grandchildren’s lives with his active involvement during their childhood and on into adulthood.  Jim was a beloved friend to many, an accomplished woodworker and a serious aviation buff.

Memorial services will be held at the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Rome where James was a long-time and active member who had served on the Vestry.  The services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation after the service in Daniel Hall for fellowship and light refreshments.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Habitat for Humanity or the Family Resource Center of Rome in Jim’s honor.
