Harvey Edward Minsk
Harvey Edward Minsk, 81, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on February 19, 2016. Born to Annie and Louis Minsk in Atlanta on January 12, 1935, Harvey graduated Henry Grady High School and Southern College of Pharmacy. A self-taught engineer, Harvey founded his own communications business and worked on such projects as updating the radio systems in the U2 spy plane and designing the antennae system for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA. Harvey served in the Georgia Air Force National Guard and had a passion for ham radio and all types of computers. A member of both the Georgia Mineral Society and the Atlanta Orchid Society, Harvey loved rock hunting and tending his vibrant greenhouse. Harvey was also a fervent sailor and enjoyed sailing Lake Lanier as well as the Southeastern coast of the US. Harvey played trumpet in many local jazz bands including his own “Big Band Atlanta” and took great pride in teaching each of his three sons using his own cornet.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred “Mimi” Cohen Minsk, and his three sons, David Laura of Waxhaw, NC, Brian of Woodinville, WA, and Robert Nicole of Calabasas, CA. Harvey’s seven grandchildren are Daniel, Justin, Evan, Nathan, Noah, Frances, and Avi.

May his memory be eternal. I will always be indebted to Harvey, as he gave me the tools to create my own lead sheets with the program “band in the box.” Without this, I am not sure I would have survived the first few months of the musicians union jam sessions. I also knew he liked the go to Leb’s Restaurant downtown. My mother was the GM at the restaurant. Harvey said they had the best “cornbeef on rye” sandwiches in the city. He will be missed. What a fine man.
