George Arthur Howell Bird died peacefully at Fountainview Center on Friday, January 12, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia following a long battle with dementia. He was 74. George was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1943. He is the son of the late Mary Adair Howell Bird and Francis Marion “Buster” Bird of Atlanta. He graduated from Mrs. Bloodworth’s Kindergarden, E. Rivers Elementary School, The Westminster School, and the University of Georgia. He was a diehard Georgia Bulldogs fan, and he also loved attending the Masters Golf Tournament throughout his life. He loved nature and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. He also loved to travel, especially to Highlands, North Carolina and annual trips to Scotland. He was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club and the Nine O’Clocks. George is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Cornelia Bird. George is also survived by his son, George (Kathy) Bird, Jr., his daughter, Ann Boling Bird, two granddaughters, Presley and Dorothy Bird, his brother Frank Bird, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cheryl Boling Bird, and his two sisters, Mary Bird Kennedy and Elizabeth “Betty” Bird Hewitt.

A funeral service will be held at The Cathedral of St. Philip on Thursday, January 18, at 2:00 pm. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the The Cathedral of St. Philip and the ASCPA.
