Doris Schifferli Thompson, “Mema”, 86, of Covington, GA passed away peacefully Friday, August 30th, 2019 at Piedmont Rockdale Medical Center. She was originally from New Jersey before moving to Georgia and was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Grant Thompson, and by her sister Barbara Young, of New Jersey. She is survived by her daughter Karen and her husband Doug Azar of Covington, GA, and sister Marilyn and her husband Buddy Guynn of Ft. Myers, Fla. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelly and her husband Rhett Scott, Ryan and his wife Alyssa Azar, her great-grandchildren, Kaelynn Azar and Kansas Azar, and nieces and nephews Sandra Bausback-Aballo, Susan and her husband John McKenna, and Brian and his wife Robin Bausback. Mema was a Labor and Delivery Nurse for over 30 years at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Atlanta Cancer Care, 1498 Klondike Rd SW, Suite 106, Conyers, GA 30094. Cremation Society of the South is handling her arrangements. In keeping with her wishes, there are no services planned.
