Doris Elaine McEachern
Doris Elaine McEachern, 63, died of lung cancer at home in Atlanta on June 28, 2018.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Doris and Willard McEachern Sr., long-time residents of Macon, Ga., where she grew up. Surviving her are her brother Willard McEachern Jr. (Patricia) of Irwinton and sister Louisa Bentley (James) of Dublin. Very special to her were her surviving nephew Everett (Gretchen) Camp of Yulee, Fla., niece Layn Camp Alderson (James) of Boca Raton, Fla., and nephew Wesley Camp of Jacksonville, Fla.
After graduating from Stratford Academy in Macon, she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia.
She moved to Atlanta in 1980 to work in public relations and worked with several commercial real estate firms including Cardinal Industries, Cushman & Wakefield, MetLife Real Estate Investments and Industrial Developments International. In 1993 she launched her own business McEachern Communications continuing to serve commercial real estate, pool and spa chemical manufacturers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and various other clients.
After growing up in Christ Episcopal Church in Macon, she was a long-time member of the Cathedral of St. Philip. The foundation of her faith was built on participation in Disciples of Christ in Community, Alpha, Natural Spirituality and Spiritual Direction. Her service to the church included promoting the parish’s annual Antiques Show.
She was active in the Public Relations Society of America where she earned her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) and served for three years as an officer in the Georgia Chapter and as an assembly delegate for three years. Also, she served on the boards of the International Association of Business Communicators, the Georgia Hospital Association’s PR Society and the DeFoors Place Homeowner’s Association.
Elaine enjoyed dance aerobics, power walking, birding, baking and was an avid reader.
She was a member of the Atlanta Opera, the High Museum of Art and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cathedral of St. Philip or the Atlanta Humane Society.

I am sorry for your loss, The bible gives us hope to see our dead loved ones again. at John 5:28,29 all those in God’s memory will be resurrected. .
I’ve known Elaine for decades through St Philip’s and our Bibb County roots but we became closer friends after Tater came into her life. I shall remember the sparkle in her eyes when speaking of Tater.
Elaine was a modern day southern belle – charming, bright, genteel, always concerned about others.
Rest in Peace, sweet lady Elaine.

Belle, French for beautiful… and Elaine was beautiful inside and outside. Like Anna Redding commented above, a true southern belle. Poise, and smarts off the scale. My wife and I met Elaine through PRSA but probably had the most fun at Atlanta Opera lecture series events. Anyone who knows her operas AND has a dog named Tater is tops in my book.

She was always genuine and curious about others and willing to help anyone in their PR career. I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort your mourning hearts. I pray that you find comfort in Revelation 21:3-5. This scripture paints a picture of a world that is very different from what we see today. A world with no more sickness, pain or death…and it is not a dream, it is a promise from God. He promises to reverse the effects of death and resurrect your precious one. You will never have to say a painful goodbye ever again!

I’m just now finding out about Elaine; I wish I had known she was ill so I could have let her know that I cared. I wish I had made her smile… God rest her soul. May her memory live forever.
I am deeply saddened to hear of Elaine’s passing. She was a dear friend in high school and through the years when we would reconnect. We would all hope to positively impact the lives of others and Elaine did this through her kindness.and thoughtfulness. Peace be with you!
