Dona LeVan King passed away on June 9, 2018.  She was the daughter of Harold and Catherine LeVan.  Born in Allentown, PA, she moved to the Atlanta area around the age of 4.

Because of a family transfer, she graduated from both Wellesley High in Massachusetts and Northside High in Atlanta.  She attended Centenary College in New Jersey before transferring and graduating from Florida State University.  While at Florida State, Dona performed in the big top, with the well regarded Flying High Florida State Circus.

Dona was preceded in death by both parents and brother, Fred LeVan (Lynda).  She is survived by husband, of over 50 years, Richard “Dick”, sisters Patricia Roberts and Karen LeVan, son Brian (Lynn), grandsons Jackson and Madison, daughter Melissa Cooney (Kevin), granddaughters Madeleine and Cassandra, stepmother Jan LeVan of San Diego, sister-in-law Connie Douglas (Jack) of Indianapolis and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dona had been a hospice volunteer, a docent at the Atlanta History Center’s Tullie Smith House and a docent at the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art.  She was a founding member and past president of the Silver Lake Garden Club and on the board of the Brittany Neighborhood Association.

Dona taught school in Atlanta and Dexheim, Germany. Some of her many hobbies included tennis, gardening, skiing, camping, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing games, both card and board.  She loved to travel with family and friends, which leave so many of us with fond and lasting memories.

A memorial service, followed by a celebration to honor her life, will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 1350 Hearst Drive in Brookhaven on Saturday, July 28th at 11:00 am.

  4. Natalie says:

I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort your mourning hearts. I pray that you find comfort in Revelation 21:3-5. This scripture paints a picture of a world that is very different from what we see today. A world with no more sickness, pain or death…and it is not a dream, it is a promise from God. He promises to reverse the effects of death and resurrect your precious Dona. You will never have to say a painful goodbye ever again!
