  1. John Keeny says:

I always identify Dave as my best friend in high school. I am not sure if I was his best friend, but that hardly matters. He made me feel special. I think he made everyone feel special. He had a personality that made you feel good about yourself. Dave was hospitable, accessible, and self-effacing. HIs sense of humor was warm and infectious; he could laugh at himself. He knew who he was and was secure in that. Dave mixed well with all the groups at Fairview and moved between them effortlessly. He was also unafraid to ask honest questions about accepted truths. Dave used to joke about not being intelligent, but he was. The articles he wrote about his PD were deep, brave, and insightful.

His death has vividly brought to mind good times double dating, running for class office on a “Dave and John” ticket, track meets (he was a talented athlete), cutting class, his Corvair, and honest conversations about life and the future. People like Dave made high school fun.

It is a privilege to have had the blessing of his friendship.
