Dr. Charlotte Pugh Ellithorp passed away April 18, 2017 at the age of 92. “Chuckie”/“Nana” the daughter of Myrtle Crawford and William Pugh spent her youth in Philadelphia, PA. She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard and William Pugh. Her lifelong passion for education began at Friends’ Central School, then to Mount Holyoke College graduating in 1946. Her teaching career began immediately at The Bartram School in Jacksonville, FL. She returned to the NE, teaching at Friends Academy on Long Island before meeting her future husband. Her marriage to Dean gave her a son and paused her education career, but a transfer brought her South. Arriving in Atlanta in the mid ‘60s she met and instantly admired educator Elliott Galloway, whose dreams became her passion. The Galloway school was founded in 1969 and benefitted from her many contributions over the next 25 years. In her spare time she earned her Master’s and Doctor of Education from Georgia State. She always found time to spend with her beloved grandchildren, supported their private educations, and enjoyed special trips. Fitness was a passion whether running, ballroom dance, or being a major Olympic Volunteer. Trinity Presbyterian Church was her home for nearly 50 years, where she enjoyed the focus on quality music by participating in the choir. Her many contributions included being a Stephens Minister. Chuckie’s final major decision was an excellent one, she choose to downsize to Canterbury Court, where she immediately became a beloved resident. Chuckie inspired those around her with her wisdom, humility, generosity, and particularly her infectious smile. She is survived by her son, Daniel G. Ellithorp (Beverly) three grandchildren, Mary Ellithorp James (Frankie), Daniel Mitchell Ellithorp (Ginny), John Edward Ellithorp (Carolyn) and seven great grandchildren, William David Ellithorp, Andrew Mitchell James, Caroline Clair Ellithorp, Matthew Franklin James, Daniel Marshall James, Ana Joan Ellithorp and Sophia Beverly Ellithorp. There will be a family interment in the Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden, and a celebration of life at a future time. For those who wish to do so, the family asks that memorial donations be made to one of the many organizations which so greatly enriched her life. Chuckie Pugh Ellithorp Library endowment at the Galloway School, Canterbury Court Residents Fund, Adele McKee Music Fund at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
