Charles R. Sheckells died peacefully on December 13, 2013 at the age of 86. He was born on September 5, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland; the son of Charles Willis and Magdalena Delker Sheckells.
Mr. Sheckells graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1945. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Manila, the Philippine Islands during the Second World War. After the war he graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1951 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. During his college years he was on the football and fencing teams, and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
After college, Mr. Sheckells went to work for the Westinghouse Corporation. He met and married his wife, Jeannene in 1957. After leaving Westinghouse, he went to work for the Honeywell Corporation in the Test Instruments Division where he was the recipient of several awards for outstanding sales and was a member of the Honeywell Presidents’ Club. His work took the family to several cities along the eastern seaboard, finally settling in Georgia where they lived for the past 41 years. He retired in 1992.
Charles was a loving and caring husband and father, who was always there for his family and friends. He enjoyed many activities with his family: boating, camping, fishing, hunting, golf, skiing, and traveling. He was active in his community, with the Georgia Head Injury Association, and in several other organizations.
Charles was a lifelong Lutheran, and was always active in his church. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Norcross, Georgia. Charles enjoyed reading his Bible, teaching, and serving on church committees. At one time he designed and helped to build a Sunday School addition to his church in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeannene M. Kohler Sheckells; his daughter Susan Stubbs and her husband Wesley, and grandson Charles James C.J.
